Uffie “Difficult” (Dir. AB/CD/CD)
Just to put this whole Uffie vs. Ke$ha thing to rest, I don’t think Uffie gives a damn if her songs are chart-toppers. Sure, Ke$ha totally bit on Uffie’s California-accent style of white girl rapping, but c’mon, who doesn’t imitate someone else’s style anymore? They both do their own thing with style and ease, so good for them.
Anywho, this video is fun times. It falls somewhere along the lines of that perpetual-motion, universe-folding-in-on-itself kinda dealio. Think of The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army,” The Ting Tings’ “Shut Up And Let Me Go,” Norah Jones’ “Thinking About You,” or if you may be so bold, Kylie Minogue’s “Come Into My World.”
Music Video: N*E*R*D - “Help Me”
A quick and dirty morning post —
Here’s a short, teaser music video for N*E*R*D’s newest, “Help Me,” from their upcoming album Nothing.
The record will be in stores November 2nd, and this track has me more excited than any of the other songs so far. I like tracks like “Hot N Fun,” but there’s something about the winding feel of this and lyrics like, cool can only be killed/never absorbed that hit me with full impact.

Nelly’s Still Famous Apparently, Has Nightmares About Marriage
Today I came across a pretty sweet mashup of Pink’s “Sober” and Nelly’s “Just a Dream.” I hadn’t actually heard the original Nelly song, so I looked it up. Turns out that “Just A Dream” is Nelly’s newest single. I’s also not super surprising the mashup works, since that song has a harder edge to the instrumentation already. Still, the mashup is a lot of fun and, more importantly, the video for “Just A Dream” is hilarious, so I thank that track for prompting me to find it.
One of the best parts about this video is that it features Katerina Graham, who plays the kick-ass witch-in-training Bonnie on The Vampire Diaries these days. Although, you can’t really tell that she’s in it, because there are a lot or artful lens flares, bubbles in water shots, and a gigantic engagement ring in every other shot.
What is up with this ring? It’s on the beach, it’s in the sky, it spends the whole video threatening to fall and kill everything near it — as a heavy-handed metaphor about wishing Nelly had committed to his girl is wont to do, I suppose. It’s so distracting that I forgot to pay attention to whether Nelly’s girl had died or if he was dead or if it was really a dream or he was drunk. After a second viewing, I learned that the video makes almost no sense, so actually the One Ring To Crush Us All is probably meant to be distracting.
But the song itself is alright. Plus, Nelly still has a job. We must cling to the important facts.
Music Video: Willow Smith’s “Whip My Hair”
Happy Monday! I was just thinking, wow, I need something to put a little bass in my hazy, gray morning, and then I found out that Willow Smith’s music video was finished.
Let the fiercest preteen in the game put some color in your Pleasantville world today. All the people featured probably left this shoot with massive headaches, but I appreciate their hardships.
Ciara’s A Quintuplet In Video For “Gimme Dat”
Hold up, Rihanna and Beyoncé — don’t discount Ciara. “Gimme Dat,” her new video and the first single from the upcoming album Basic Instinct, proves once again that every time I start to forget that Ciara’s a contender, she does something fun to remind me.
I like this video for exactly the reasons I’m supposed to like it. Ciara is hot, she can dance, and she can carry a catchy hook. I mean, I still sing the “Goodies” chorus often and find reasons to slip “What, you mad? Can’t handle that?” into as many situations as possible. And this video not only has a catchy song under it, but everyone involved is so confident in Ciara’s stunning awesomeness that they drive that point home four other times.
Five Ciaras! There’s an entire girl group of Ciaras, inspiring Givenchy nonstop and taking all the designer clothes I wish I had.
I ain’t mad at ‘em.
Gold Panda - “Snow and Taxis”
Golda Panda is where I’m at today. I like to listen to NPR in an effort to make myself both smarter and more cultured. I still always latch onto electronic artists first, but at least I can say that NPR told me about it, so clearly I’m validated. Today, NPR’s “All Things Considered” introduced me to a UK artist whose first album is exactly what I needed right now, as Los Angeles tries to figure out its purpose in life by crying all over everyone and yo-yoing from record highs to dreary 60s in less than a week.
Songs like “Snow and Taxis” manage to be the right amount of reflective and moody without sacrificing energy. It’s so entrancing that I totally watched the whole five-minute music video and didn’t even realize until it was over that it’s just a faceless dude walking through roughage. (Oh god, so many pointless plants. Watching this must be like having an epiphany about life, the universe, and everything when stoned.) I would feel duped, but it seemed alright while it was happening.
Everyone go to the Gold Panda website, listen to, and then download Lucky Shiner. Keep it on deck for when you need a good, hazy day folk soundtrack.
