‘Historically Hardcore’ Posters: The Coolest Campaign Smithsonian Didn’t Create

This “Historically Hardcore” collection of posters has been making the rounds online so much in the last week that many folks assume they were commissioned by the Smithsonian.

Artists Jenny Burrows and Matt Kappler have had to edit what was actually a school art project in order to remove the Smithsonian logo thanks to all the viral attention, but that’s more a testament to their effectiveness. They blend history and modern pop culture through humorous fact. With an increasing number of establishments actively trying to go viral and attract digital attention, the Smithsonian may kill an opportunity early by instructing Burrows and Kappler to change their prints.
